Mannheim, Heidelberg, St. Martin/Pfalz, Stuttgart and Paris
Nachdem wir uns 3 Tage in Hannover aufgehalten haben sind wir nach Mannheim zu einer Tagung des Sportrings gefahren. Von Mannheim aus haben wir das schöne Heidelberg besichtigt. Das alte Schloss und die Altstadt sind nicht nur für Japaner eine Reise wert.
After 3 days in Hannover we went to Mannheim for Guenter’s sports conference. From Mannheim we went to Heidelberg and saw the old castle and old town.

Von Heidelberg aus sind wir nach St. Martin, einem sehr schönem Winzer-Ort in der Pfalz, gefahren. Bei sehr schönem Wetter haben wir die Weinberge erwandert, es war wunderschön.
Bei einem Abendessen und einer Flaschen Wein in einer Straussenwirtschaft haben wir den Abend ausklingen lassen. In St. Martin gibt es einen Campingplatz und sehr preiswerte Stellplätze bei einigen Winzern. Leider sind die Bilder von St. Martin und Stuttgart auf dem Camera Speicher verloren gegangen.
From Heidelberg we drove to St. Martin which is a small town in the Pfalz wine country area. It was beautiful weather and we went for a walk through the small town which had many wineries. We stayed at a very inexpensive camp site at a winery and enjoyed a bottle of wine in the evening. Unfortunately, the pictures from St. Martin and Stuttgart were deleted when we were downloading to the computer.

Von St. Martin aus sind wir über Speyer zu Ursel und Hans nach Stuttgart gefahren.. Die Beiden haben uns sehr herzlich empfangen, wir haben lange bei einem guten Dinner mit schmackhaften Rotwein über unsere Panamericana Tour geredet. Am nächsten Tag haben die Beiden uns das schöne Stuttgart gezeigt. Neben eine Fahrt auf dem ältesten Fernsehturm Deutschlands (1954) haben wir die Altstadt und das neue Museum von Mercedes besichtigt. Das Museum ist sehr Interessant, es dreht sich hier nicht nur um die Geschichte des Autos sondern auch Interessante Stationen der Weltgeschichte begleiten den Besucher durch das Museum.
Dann haben wir uns auf den Weg nach Paris gemacht. Unsere erste Übernachtung haben wir in Metz, der Hauptstadt von Lothringen, an der Mosel gemacht. Auf dem Fahrrad haben wir die Altstadt und die Porte Allemands erkundet. In der Stadt ist uns aufgefallen, dass überall üppiger Blumenschmuck angebracht war, man sagt auch Metz die Gartenstadt.
From St. Martin we went to Stuttgart to visit Ursel and Hans, stopping in Speyer en route. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner with Ursel and Hans and in the evening we reminisced about the Panamericana –Canada trip. The next day Ursel and Hans took us on a tour of Stuttgart. We saw the oldest television tour of Germany which was built in 1954. We also saw the old town and visited the new Mercedes Museum. The museum was very interesting as it had the history of cars as well as world history.
En route to Paris we stayed in Metz, the capital of Lothringen. Riding our bicycles we toured the town and the Port of Allemands. Metz is called the Garden City as it has beautiful flower gardens and planters.

Am nächsten Tag sind wir weiter gefahren nach Paris. Unterwegs haben wir in Verdun viele große Soldatenfriedhöfe gesehen. Auf den Friedhöfen liegen ca. 200 000 von einer Millionen gefallenen Soldaten.
The next day we drove to Paris. Along the way we saw military cemeteries from WW1. One million soilders died and 200,000 are buried in the cemeteries.

In Reims haben wir Halt gemacht um die Krönungskathedrale der französischen Könige zu besichtigen.

In Paris angekommen ist uns zu erst der starke Verkehr aufgefallen, es ging in 6 Spuren in die Stadt. Einen Campingplatz haben wir nicht sehr weit von der Innenstadt gefunden. Abends haben wir dann eine Stadtbesichtigung mit Bus und Schiff gemach, also Paris bei Nacht. Es hat uns sehr gut gefallen, insbesondere die Fahrt auf der Seine.
The traffic was very heavy when we drove into Paris with 6 lanes in each direction. We found a campsite near the center of Paris. In the evening we took a bus and boat tour of Paris. We especially enjoyed the boat ride on the Seine River.

Am ersten Tag haben wir uns die vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten mit dem Fahrrad angeschaut. Trotz des vielen Verkehres haben wir doch sehr viel von der Stadt gesehen, dabei hatten wir Zeit uns alles in Ruhe anzusehen.
We rode our bikes through Paris seeing many of the sights. Even though there was a lot of traffic and many tourists, we were able to leisurely enjoy the city.

Es für mich unverständlich das es auf dem Campingplatz weder einen Hot Spot noch ein Internet Cafe gibt, so mussten wir am nächsten Tag bei McDonalds unsere E-Mails abrufen.Es ist ein kostenloser Service in allen MD Läden.
We could not understand why the campsite did not have Internet as it had 435 camping sites. Fortunately McDonalds was nearby and internet is free at McDonalds.
Am Nachmittag sind wir dann mit der Metro nach Montmartre gefahren um dann von da aus zum Champs Elysees zu fahre um dort eine Vorstellung im Lido zu besuchen. So haben wir Paris vielfältig erleben dürfen. Mit dem Wetter hatten wir viel Glück, als wir dann aufgebrochen sind nach Calais, fing es an zu regnen, allerdings auf der Überfahrt nach England war dann wieder blauer Himmel zu sehen.
In the afternoon we took the metro to Montmartre and to Champs of Elysees to see the Lido Show. We were able to experience Paris in beautiful sunny weather. We drove in rain to Calais and due to wind we were delayed over two hours for the ferry to England. We had blue skies as we crossed over to England.

Von London aus sind wir in den Westen der Insel gefahren. Unterwegs haben wir den Steinkreis, eine Opferstätte der Druiden, besucht.
From London we went to the west side of the island. We saw Stonehenge, the stone circle that was created by the Druids.

Von da aus sind wir in die schöne Stadt Bath gefahren. Aus der Geschichte kann man erkenne, dass die Römer hier ein Heilbad gegründet haben, dass bis heute noch existiert. Die Stadt mit Ihren alten Bädern, der Kathedrale und schönen kleinen Gassen hat uns begeistert.
Afterwards we went to the beautiful city of Bath. Once occupied by the Romans which was evident from the medicinal baths that still exist today. We enjoyed the town with the ancient baths, cathedral and beautiful little lanes.

Von Bath aus sind wir mit dem Linienbus nach Bristol gefahren. Bristol ist nach dem Krieg, 1946 die erste Partnerstadt von Hannover geworden. Die Bürger von Bristol haben in Hannover sehr viel Aufbauhilfe geleistet und den Bürgen von Hannover viel gutes zukommen lassen. Ich hatte das große Glück an den 40 und 50 jährigen offiziellen Feierlichkeiten in Bristol teilzunehmen. Bristol ist eine typisch englische Industriestadt mit einem alten Hafen, eine bedeutende Kathedrale und netten Menschen.
From Bath we took the bus to Bristol. Bristol became the first twin town of Hannover in 1946 after the war. The citizens of Bristol were very helpful to the citizens of Hannover after World War II. I was very lucky to take part in the 40 and 50 year celebration in Bristol. Bristol is a typical English industrial town with an old port, an important cathedral and nice people.

Von Bath aus sind wir dann über Wales zum Fährhafen Fishguard gefahren um nach Irland überzusetzen.
We then took the ferry from Fishguard, Wales to Ireland.
